Expect the unexpected as renowned poet/musician Sarah Slean joins Wild West for a performance of Schoenberg’s Pierrot lunaire. Also explore legendary contemporary gems, such as 4’33, John Cage’s experimental work on silence.
The Wild West New Music Ensemble is Calgary’s newest professional chamber music ensemble. Specializing in the contemporary classical repertoire and led by emerging conductor Mélanie Léonard, this ensemble is comprised of some of Calgary’s top professional musicians, most of whom occupy positions in the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.
Originally from Rochester, New York, violinist Lenora Cox Leggatt began studying at age 7 and made her solo debut with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra at age 16. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music studying with Catherine Tait and Zvi Zeitlin, and Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music with Donald Weilerstein.
Originally from Brandon, Manitoba, Laurie is currently Third Horn with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. She began her professional career in 1978 as second horn of the Atlantic Symphony, and has been a member of the CPO since 1983.
