Join Canadian soprano Helen Pridmore for a recital celebrating the release of her solo CD, on the Centrediscs label, Janet. The concert will feature her incredibly versatile voice, unaccompanied and in a way not usually heard from a classical vocalist. She creaks and groans, produces bird calls,  Hallowe’en-like sound effects, incredibly high notes and more!

The concert and CD present works by Canadian composers from across the country that have been written especially for Pridmore. The Whole Note says of the album, “Clearly, the composers have all been attracted to Pridmore’s unique skill set and manner of working. The resulting music takes full advantage of her attractive and flexible voice, impressively extended technical and stylistic range and — perhaps most important of all — adventuresome spirit.” She will also be performing a work by John Cage to celebrate his 100th birthday, which just passed in 2012. Her previous disc Between the Shore and the Ships won Best Classical CD at the recent East Coast Music Awards (ECMAs), held in Halifax in early March.
