Calgary New Music Festival

Part of the Calgary New Music Festival “Festiva!”

“Classic Minimalism”

FLUX Quartet with Evan Ziporyn, saxophone and composer,
Tom Chiu, violin,
Conrad Harris, violin,
Max Mandel, viola,
Felix Fan, cello

Seminal works by the 3 great masters of American minimalism. The spirit to explore and expand stylistic boundaries is a trademark of the FLUX Quartet. Inspired by the allembracing philosophy of the Fluxus movement, violinist Tom Chiu founded the FLUX Quartet in a search for a living art for all people with an “anything-goes, do-it-yourself” spirit. To that end, FLUX has always been committed to projects of unique vision that defy aesthetic categorization. FLUX is joined by Evan Ziporyn (formerly of Bang on a Can) for a program of intrepid works by America’s great minimalists.
